Simone Kappeyne-Burgers (1963)
My path towards a career centered around art may sound unusual. But isn’t that exactly what is so special about art: that it brings different views and surprises?
I started off as a medical doctor, specialising in family medicine. I enjoyed my work, especially the contact with my patients, from different cultures and backgrounds. In 1998 my family had the opportunity to live in South East Asia for some years. Since I could not work there as a doctor, I developed my talents in art and started to work in this field.
Back in The Netherlands I continued in the arts: teaching children and adults, organising art events, carrying out community art projects, and developing and running training programs for the corporate world. Currently I am extending my skills in art education at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam.
